Being a competitive Swimmer and Waterpolo player at International level from my teen years I always wanted to continue in sport.  In June 2009 after 6 months in Dublin, I obtained a National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training.  As a result I now bring groups of people twice weekly on hill treks.

As a personal trainer, my job involves motivating people to take exercise at least 4 times per week.  The common excuses are; I’m not sporty, I hate jogging, I won’t put my face in the water. That’s when I introduce trekking. Why?  Exercise is made up of 3 components

  1. The physical movement of your arms & legs
  2. The mental benefits of being out in fresh air
  3. Most importantly the social aspect where a group meets new friends from different backgrounds.

As I always enjoyed the outdoors and nature, I saw a gap in the market in this area and together with my business partner and long term walking friend Gerry Jordan, we decided to set up a business called Trek West.  We offer guided walking tours and accommodation packages using predetermined routes set up by the local governing bodies and County Councils.
